Kwankwaso Petition: DSS Releases Detained Kano Officials

The Department of State Services (DSS) has released several Kano State Government officials after briefly detaining and questioning them over allegations of cyberbullying and defamation linked to a petition by former governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The officials, who were reportedly interrogated for about four hours, were later granted bail on self-recognition.

Those involved include Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director-General of Media and Publicity, Government House Kano; Ibrahim Adam, Special Adviser on Information; Salisu Yahaya Hotoro, APC Youth Leader in Kano; and Nuhu Dambazau, Senior Special Reporter.

Their invitation followed a petition dated April 10, 2026, in which Kwankwaso accused them of orchestrating coordinated online attacks against him and members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement on social media, particularly Facebook.

Sources say the DSS action suggests the matter remains under investigation, with no immediate findings announced.

The incident comes amid heightened online exchanges between supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and allies of the Kano State Government. No official statement has been issued by either the DSS or the state government.
