Senate Passes Second Reading Of N2.2tn FCT 2026 Budget

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday passed the second reading of the N2.2 trillion 2026 Appropriation Billfor the Federal Capital Territory.

The bill, presented by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, seeks approval to draw N2.2 trillion from the FCT statutory revenue fund to finance the territory’s operations and development projects for the 2026 fiscal year.

A breakdown of the budget shows N165.8 billion allocated for personnel costs, N378.2 billion for overheads, and N1.657 trillion earmarked for capital projects.

Bamidele said the budget aims to improve infrastructure, public utilities, healthcare, education, and transportation in the capital city.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin commended the large allocation for capital projects, while Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised Nyesom Wike and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their commitment to Abuja’s development.

The bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on the FCT and Area Councils for further review and is expected to return to plenary within a week.
