Sanwo-Olu Pays Tribute To Late Super Eagles Coach Onigbinde

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the death of former Super Eagles coach, Festus Adegboye Onigbinde, describing him as a legend and national icon whose contributions to Nigerian football will never be forgotten.

Onigbinde, who died on Monday at the age of 88, led Nigeria to the 2002 FIFA World Cup and guided the Green Eagles to the final of the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu said the late Modakeke-born coach was one of the most respected tacticians in Nigeria’s football history.

The governor also extended condolences to the Onigbinde family, the Osun State Government and the Nigeria Football Federation.

Sanwo-Olu noted that beyond coaching the national team, Onigbinde also served as a technical instructor for both the Confederation of African Football and FIFA, contributing significantly to football development in Africa.

He prayed for the repose of the late coach’s soul and urged family, friends and football fans to accept his death as the will of God.
