PDP Crisis: Saraki Calls For New Convention After Appeal Court Ruling

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has urged leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party to end ongoing court cases over the party’s disputed national convention and organise a fresh one that complies with electoral guidelines.

Saraki made the call on Tuesday while reacting to a ruling by the Court of Appeal which upheld earlier decisions invalidating the PDP national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025.

In a statement issued by his media office, Saraki said the party should accept the judgement and focus on conducting a new convention in line with the timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to him, waiting for a Supreme Court verdict may waste valuable time and affect members preparing to contest in the 2027 general elections.

Saraki warned that prolonged litigation could jeopardise the chances of party members seeking elective offices on the PDP platform.

The appeal court had earlier barred INEC from recognising the outcome of the convention, including the emergence of Taminu Turaki as national chairman.

The court ruled that the party failed to comply with constitutional requirements before conducting the convention, noting that proper notice was not served on INEC and valid congresses were not held in more than 14 states.

Saraki therefore urged aggrieved party leaders to set aside personal interests and work together to organise an all-inclusive convention capable of producing a widely accepted leadership.
