Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment To Agrarian Reform, Food Security At Global Conference

Nigeria has restated its dedication to agrarian reform, rural peace, and national food security at the Second International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ICARRD+20).

Senator Abubakar Kyari, Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at the global gathering, where he delivered the Presidential Address.

He emphasized that food security remains central to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that responsible and inclusive land governance is vital for agricultural productivity, national stability, and sustainable development.

Nigeria highlighted several ongoing reforms, including: Development of structured farm estates under NALDA, digitization of land administration systems, expanded access to land for youth and women, promotion of climate-smart agriculture and structured ranching and inclusive land-use planning to address farmer–herder conflicts.

The conference concluded with the adoption of a global declaration promoting equitable land access, climate resilience, and sustainable rural transformation.

Senator Kyari affirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and other international partners, stressing that strengthening food systems and accelerating rural development are key to achieving shared prosperity.
