Burna Boy Pays Tribute, Says Beef With AKA Was Squashed

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has disclosed that he and late South African rapper AKA reconciled their long-running feud before the rapper’s death.

Burna Boy made this known in a posthumous birthday tribute shared on his Instagram page, expressing regret that they never had the chance to fully reconnect or collaborate before AKA passed away.

The two artistes fell out in 2019 after Burna Boy threatened to “deal” with AKA, following claims that the South African rapper had encouraged xenophobic attacks against Nigerians amid online exchanges linked to the AFCON quarterfinal match banter.

In the tribute, Burna Boy revealed that the dispute was quietly resolved through private Twitter direct messages, a reconciliation that was not made public.

“Happy birthday Supa Mega. We fell out over bullsh*t even though we squashed it over Twitter DMs nobody knew about. We never got the chance to really link up and do what we were supposed to do. I will regret that until I see you again,” Burna Boy wrote.

AKA was shot dead outside a restaurant in Durban on February 10, 2023, and the trial over his murder is still ongoing.
