Calls For Restraint Grow As Two More Rivers Lawmakers Oppose Impeachment

Calls for restraint are growing within the Rivers State House of Assembly as more lawmakers urge their colleagues to abandon the impeachment move against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

Barile Nwakoh (Khana I) and Emilia Amadi (Obio/Akpor II) became the latest legislators to oppose the impeachment plan, joining Minority Leader Sylvanus Eyinna Nwankwo (Omuma) and Peter Abbey (Degema), who had earlier called for dialogue.

Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, Nwankwo said appeals from leaders within and outside the state had prompted the call for restraint and reconciliation.

Abbey acknowledged that the governor may have breached some constitutional provisions but said mistakes should be addressed through engagement rather than impeachment, adding that steps should be taken to prevent a recurrence.
