Oba, Son Abducted As Gunmen Invade Kwara Palace

Gunmen have kidnapped the Aniwo 1 of Aafin community in Ile-Ire District, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Oba Simeon Olaonipekun, and one of his sons, Olaolu, during an attack on the palace on Wednesday night.

The assailants, said to be about eight in number, reportedly stormed the palace around 8pm on New Year’s Eve, firing sporadically and demanding to see the monarch and his wife.

A family source said the attackers forced their way into the palace, shot the queen in the arm, and abducted the monarch and his son, who is currently serving in the National Youth Service Corps.

“The leader spoke good English and kept asking for the Kabiesi and his wife,” the source said, adding that the vigilante group on duty was unable to resist the heavily armed attackers.

The injured queen was later rushed to hospital, while the whereabouts of the abducted victims remained unknown as of Thursday.
