In a bid to transform Nigeria’s healthcare landscape, the Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Pate, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reforms that prioritize life-saving care and financial relief for citizens.
Speaking through his Technical Assistant, Dr. Ashiru Abubakar, during the handover of medical equipment and consumables to the Gidauniyar Alheri Community Health Centre in Kano, Pate emphasized that the reforms align with the National Health Act and aim to build a robust National Health System. This system, he said, would ensure equitable access to quality healthcare for all Nigerians.
Achieving this vision, he noted, requires collaboration between government, private sector stakeholders, and development partners through strong public-private partnerships.
Highlighting the impact of grassroots healthcare, Pate praised the Gidauniyar Alheri facility for its outstanding service. A briefing from former Minister of National Planning and Budget, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, revealed that the community hospital has been a beacon of hope in Kano State.
The hospital’s chairman, Dr. Aminu Sudawa, shared impressive statistics: since its founding in 2009 by 10 local communities, the centre has recorded over 10,000 safe deliveries with zero maternal deaths and provided 75,000 antenatal services in just four years. The facility also offers immunization, family planning, minor surgeries, and other essential services.
Pate commended Dr. Usman for his dedication to community health and encouraged other Nigerians to follow his example. He also applauded the local community for its support and reiterated the government’s resolve to strengthen primary and secondary healthcare institutions nationwide.
Kano State Ministry of Health’s Permanent Secretary, Aminu Bashir, echoed the appreciation, thanking the Federal Government for its continued support of the health centre.
