Opeyemi Aiyeola: I Blocked Nollywood Colleagues For 10 Years To Save My Marriage

Veteran Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has opened up about why she cut ties with her colleagues after getting married, revealing that it was a deliberate move to protect her marriage from collapse.

Speaking in a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, the actress disclosed that after tying the knot with her husband, Olayiwola Abdulwakilu, she moved to the United States and completely withdrew from the entertainment scene for over a decade.

“I was off the scene for more than ten years, and I apologised to my fans. I held my marriage in high esteem, so I blocked everybody’s contact in the industry,” Aiyeola said.

She explained that she took the step out of fear that her marriage could fall apart like others in the entertainment industry. “People say actors don’t have stable homes, so I decided to do things differently. I didn’t want my marriage to become another statistic.”

Now a mother of two boys, Aiyeola said she has since reconnected with her colleagues as she returns to focus on her career. “I sacrificed everything for my children. It’s time for me to carve my own path again,” she added.
