President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Edwin Clark, former Federal Commissioner for Information and a revered leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF).
He described Clark as a fearless advocate who was never afraid to stand alone in the fight against injustice.
Chief Clark, who passed away at the age of 97, was born on May 25, 1927, in Kiagbodo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
Throughout his life, he was a dedicated public servant, serving at various times as a councillor and both state and federal cabinet member.

He was also a staunch champion for resource control, economic justice, and environmental rights in the Niger Delta.
On behalf of the federal government, President Tinubu extended his condolences to the Clark family, the Ijaw nation, the people of the Niger Delta, and the Delta State government.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the president described Clark’s death as a “deeply sobering loss,” emphasizing that his influence spanned nearly six decades in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“Chief Clark spoke for the Niger Delta. He spoke for the nation. His views and interventions on national issues were distinct and patriotic,” Tinubu said.
He praised Clark’s unwavering commitment to justice, unity, and true federalism, adding that history will remember him as a man who fought tirelessly for the rights of the Niger Delta people and the stability of the nation.
“As an astute politician, his opponents never doubted the weight, confidence, and conviction of his words. Indeed, a patriot has transitioned to the great beyond,” Tinubu stated.
The president concluded by praying for divine comfort for Clark’s family, friends, and all those mourning his passing.
