Oyo State Government Sets Up Committee For Alaafin’s Coronation

The Oyo State Government has inaugurated a committee to oversee the coronation of the new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, who will be the 46th ruler of the historic town.

According to a statement by Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, the coronation is scheduled for April 5, 2025, at Oliveth Baptist High School, Oyo.

This announcement follows Governor Seyi Makinde’s formal presentation of the staff and certificate of office to Oba Owoade on January 13, 2025.

The installation committee has been divided into subcommittees to ensure smooth coordination and effective planning for the event, which aims to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Oyo Kingdom.

The committee features a blend of government officials, royal family members, and community leaders, including:

• Hon. Ademola Ojo, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters
• Prince Abiodun Owoade and Prince Adeniyi Owoade, representing the royal lineage
• Prof. Musibau Babatunde, Chairman of Oyo East Local Government and Commissioner for Budget
• Sunday Odukoya, Executive Assistant on Security

Other notable members include Dr. Ganiyu Ajadi, Director-General of Protocol, and Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, a Member of the House of Representatives.

The Oyo State Government has assured the public that comprehensive preparations are in place to ensure a memorable and secure coronation.

The event is expected to draw dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, including traditional rulers, government officials, and influential personalities.

Security measures, cultural performances, and logistical arrangements are being meticulously planned to reflect the significance of this historic occasion.
