Popular Nigerian singer Darlington Achakpo, widely known as Speed Darlington, has been granted bail following his arraignment in court.
This development was announced by one of his lawyers, Deji Adeyanju, on Wednesday via X.com. He stated, “Police finally arraign Speed Darlington in court. Bail application moved and granted. We are trying to perfect same.”
Speed Darlington had earlier petitioned the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, DIG Dasuki Galadanchi, demanding compliance with a court order regarding his prolonged detention.
His lawyer, Rosemary E. Hamza, highlighted that Justice M.S. Liman had issued an order on December 23, 2024, directing the police to either charge him within 48 hours or release him unconditionally.
The singer was first arrested in October 2024 over allegations of defamation and cyberstalking involving Burna Boy.
He was detained in Lagos and later transferred to Abuja by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team.
After his initial release, Speed Darlington was re-arrested in November while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo State.
Efforts are currently underway to finalize his bail conditions, with his legal team committed to ensuring compliance with the court’s directives.
