The ongoing face-off between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.
Trouble started when Obi in his New Year message criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and expressed concerns over “institutional corruption, mismanagement, poverty, hardship, and an escalating debt profile” in the country.
The scathing criticism was not well received by the ruling APC, who through its Spokesperson, Felix Morka accused Obi of overstepping boundaries in his criticism.
Morka went on to describe the former presidential candidate as a “prophet of doom” and that “he has crossed the line so many times and has it coming to him whatever he gets”
Obi did not take the comments lightly and came out to raise an alarm that his life had come under threat following Morka’s comments.

He asked Nigerians if he had “crossed the line” in his New Year message as claimed by Morka.
In the latest instalment of the ongoing war of words, Morka has come out to allege that he has also received “numerous death threats” after Obi’s comments.
Morka made the remarks during his latest appearance on The Morning Show, a programme on Arise Television, on Wednesday.
The APC spokesperson said the alleged threats were triggered by Obi’s accusations that his previous comment constituted a threat to his life and members of his family.
Reacting to Obi’s claim, the APC spokesperson said he had recorded over 200 death threats, many of which were described in graphic detail.

The threats, Morka said, had even extended to members of his family.
“Peter Obi’s allegations that my words in that interview threatened his life have triggered serious consequences,” Morka said.
“As of now, I have documented 400 threats, about 200 of which are explicit death threats. These are written threats that I will be submitting to law enforcement agencies.
“In these messages, individuals have detailed how they plan to harm me—threatening to shoot me, behead me, and carry out other gruesome acts. This is not mere rhetoric. It has even extended to direct threats against some members of my family. These are explicit and graphic threats, not vague insinuations.”
Morka, however, insisted he was blameless, shifting responsibility for the worsening tensions away from his part.
The APC spokesperson asked law enforcement to take appropriate action against those making threats.
“This entire situation is baseless and cannot be attributed to me. I did not threaten Peter Obi in any way,” he added.
“Those issuing these threats are acting on their own, but I trust that law enforcement will respond swiftly to bring them to justice.”
Similarly, Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the ruling APC has berated Obi over his recent threat to life claims, saying it was all to seek attention.
Ganduje said Morka did not threaten the former governor of Anambra or his family.
In a statement, Ganduje described Obi’s claim that his life was threatened as a “malicious lie aimed at seeking attention and playing the victim for emotional blackmail”.
The APC national chairman alleged that Obi incited his supporters to issue death threats against Morka.
Ganduje said the ruling party will continue to defend Tinubu’s administration against “disinformation by desperate politicians”.
“By falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Mr. Obi has libelled Morka in the extreme and incited his online supporters to issue death threats against Morka and his family,” the statement reads.
“Morka’s comments during the interview were strictly in response to a question referencing ‘prophets of doom’ and ‘voodoo economics’.
“Nothing in his statement constituted or suggested a threat to Obi or anyone else.
“Does Mr. Obi expect the APC to fold its arms and allow the opposition to propagate falsehoods without any response?”
Meanwhile, Obi has debunked rumours of him being arrested, describing it as “recurring fake news.
In the midst of his ongoing face-off with the APC, some social media posts had claimed that the former Anambra State governor was arrested in Abuja.
But in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, Obi said the claims are entirely false and stated that he is currently at his home in Onitsha, Anambra State.
He recalled how similar “lies” had been circulated last September that the Department for Security Services (DSS) invaded his home while he was in Rwanda.
The Labour Party chieftain said that the motive of those peddling the rumours cannot be positive but urged Nigerians not to allow it to distract them from the critical challenges facing the nation.
The post reads, “The recurring fake News on me. I have been made aware of a circulating fake News about my alleged arrest. Let me state unequivocally that these claims are entirely false. I am currently at my home in Onitsha, Anambra State.
“Such fake News on my person has become a pastime for some people. Recall last September, when I was in Rwanda, similar lies had gone out that DSS invaded my house; now, while I was in my home in Onitsha, Anambra State, they said I was arrested in Abuja.
“The motive of these peddlers cannot be positive but let us not allow baseless rumors to distract us from the critical challenges we face as a nation. I thank the public for the concern, support, and dedication to the cause of a better Nigeria that is possible!!!”
