Borno Government Subsidises Petrol To N600/Litre For Farmers Affected By Insurgency

The Borno State Government has announced a petrol subsidy initiative to ease the financial burden on farmers in areas affected by Boko Haram insurgency.

Governor Babagana Zulum disclosed this during the distribution of agricultural inputs to over 5,000 displaced farmers in Bama town on Friday evening.

The subsidy will reduce the cost of petrol from its current price of N1,000–N1,200 per litre in Maiduguri to N600 for irrigation farmers.

Zulum explained that the initiative is aimed at supporting farmers struggling with the high cost of fuel, which is critical for irrigation farming in the conflict-affected region.

“To address this issue, the government will procure petroleum products and sell them to farmers at a subsidised rate of N600 per litre,” the governor said.

He added that the Commissioner for Agriculture would coordinate with the Brigade Commander to ensure timely delivery of the subsidised fuel.

Meanwhile, Governor Zulum also distributed essential farming tools and inputs, including, 2,000 bags of blended NPK fertiliser, 620 gasoline pumps, 380 solar water pumps, 1,000 sprayers, 800 rolls of 2-inch flexible hoses, 1,000 litres of pesticides and seeds.

Zulum expressed gratitude to the federal government for supporting his administration’s efforts to reconstruct and resettle communities devastated by years of insurgency.
