BREAKING: KWASU, NDLEA Partner To Combat Drug Abuse Among Students

The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has partnered with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to conduct drug tests for students as part of efforts to curb substance abuse on campus.

Speaking to journalists in Ilorin, the state capital, KWASU Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mashood Jimba, revealed that 500 students underwent testing on the first day of the program’s implementation.

Jimba praised the NDLEA for extending its anti-drug abuse initiatives to educational institutions, stating, “KWASU is the second university in Nigeria to launch such a program.

The initiative aims to identify drug users and provide free counseling while families bear the cost of rehabilitation if necessary.”

The university recently held a flag-off ceremony for the initiative, organized in collaboration with the Kwara State Government and the NDLEA. Prof. Jimba emphasized that no students tested positive during the initial phase of the program.

He highlighted the institution’s commitment to tackling drug abuse through intelligence gathering and proactive measures, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
