Femi Branch Slams Arrest Of Organisers Over Christmas Funfair Tragedy

Veteran actor Femi Branch has strongly criticized the arrest of Queen Naomi Silekunola, broadcaster Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, and school principal Abdullahi Fasasi, following a tragic incident at a Christmas funfair that claimed the lives of 35 children.

Taking to his social media platforms, Branch sympathized with the families of the victims but described the charges against the organisers as baseless.

He argued that the tragedy resulted from parental negligence rather than the organisers’ actions.

Branch highlighted that the event was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., with security personnel set to arrive at 8 a.m.

However, reports revealed that parents started arriving the night before, throwing their children over the fence into the locked venue.

“Why are the organisers being punished for the recklessness of some parents?” he questioned.

“The organisers had every intention to bless the community, and this situation is being unfairly turned against them.”

He called for the immediate release of Queen Naomi and her co-organisers, urging authorities to hold accountable the parents who endangered their children by scaling the fence.

Branch also warned that the arrests set a dangerous precedent, discouraging individuals from initiating charitable acts in the future. “If we keep punishing those trying to do good, we’re only hurting ourselves as a society,” he concluded.

The incident has sparked widespread debate on accountability, with many Nigerians supporting Branch’s stance.
