Labour Party Rep, Fom Daniel Chollom Defects To APC Amid Leadership Crisis

Fom Daniel Chollom, a Labour Party (LP) member of the House of Representatives, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal leadership conflicts within the Labour Party.  

In a letter read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during Tuesday’s plenary, Chollom stated that the divisions within the Labour Party hindered his ability to represent his constituents effectively. 
He expressed his intention to align with the APC and President Bola Tinubu to deliver “the dividends of democracy.” 
“I have reflected deeply on the leadership crisis in the Labour Party and concluded that I can better serve my people within the APC,” Chollom said.  
The defection sparked criticism from opposition lawmakers. Deputy Minority Whip George Ozodinobi described defectors as lacking ideological commitment and demanded that Chollom’s seat be declared vacant.  
“There is no leadership crisis in the Labour Party,” Ozodinobi argued. “These defectors use the party’s platform for their political ambitions and abandon it shortly after. Their actions lack ideological consistency.”  
Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda also faulted the defection process, arguing that Chollom failed to provide evidence of resignation from his party at the ward level before submitting his letter to the House.  
Chinda and Ozodinobi called for stricter adherence to legislative procedures and emphasized the need to address the increasing rate of defections, which they claim undermines democratic stability.  
However, at the time of this report, the APC has not yet issued a formal response to Chollom’s defection.
