Senate To Meet FG Delegation Thursday Over Tax Reform Bills

The Senate is set to meet with a federal government delegation on Thursday, December 5, 2024, to address controversies surrounding the proposed tax reform bills under consideration by the National Assembly.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin disclosed this during Wednesday’s plenary, emphasizing the need for extensive deliberations with the executive before passing the bills.

The meeting, which will take place at the National Assembly Complex, will feature a delegation of lawmakers led by Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro.

Other senators slated to attend include Chief Whip Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Adamu Aliero (PDP, Kebbi Central), Seriake Dickson (PDP, Bayelsa West), Titus Zam (Benue South), Abdullahi Yahaya (Kebbi), Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West), Sani Musa (APC, Niger East), and Adetokunbo Abiru (APC, Lagos East).

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently directed the Ministry of Justice to collaborate with the National Assembly to address stakeholders’ concerns regarding the tax reform proposals. The reforms aim to streamline Nigeria’s tax system and boost revenue but have faced criticism from various quarters.

The Senate’s proactive engagement highlights its commitment to ensuring the reforms are inclusive and beneficial to all Nigerians. Further updates are expected following Thursday’s deliberations.
