Ondo Election: Candidates, 17 Political Parties Sign Peace Accord

In preparation for Ondo State’s upcoming governorship election, 17 political parties and their candidates have signed a peace accord to promote a credible and peaceful electoral process.

The National Peace Accord Committee, led by former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, organized the event in Akure.

General Abubakar urged candidates to accept election results if deemed free and fair, appealing for peaceful and lawful handling of any grievances.

He noted the importance of Ondo setting a positive example for future off-cycle elections across Nigeria.

INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu commended the Peace Accord Committee’s role in reducing electoral tensions and confirmed extensive preparations to support a peaceful election in Ondo, including logistics for remote areas. Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, also pledged unbiased security to ensure fair conditions for all candidates.

Ondo Governor and APC candidate, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, voiced his commitment to the peace accord and assured stakeholders of security throughout the election period.

The peace accord concluded with a unified call for respect for democratic principles, reinforcing the commitment to a free, fair, and peaceful election in Ondo State.
