“Cost Of Living Overwhelming” Osinbajo

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritize improving the welfare of Nigerians amid significant economic challenges.

Speaking at the 2024 Women in Management, Business, and Public Service (WIMBIZ) conference, Osinbajo highlighted the severe impact of rising costs in essentials like food, transportation, and housing.

Osinbajo stressed the need for robust social welfare programs and accessible healthcare to help Nigerians facing food insecurity and an overwhelming cost of living.

“Survival is becoming harder for many,” Osinbajo remarked, adding that food insecurity is particularly affecting children.

“The cost of living is overwhelming Nigerians’ hope for survival,” Osinbajo remarked. He emphasized the growing issue of food insecurity, particularly affecting children, and called for stronger support systems to ensure basic needs are met.

He also underscored the urgency of addressing the country’s literacy issues, especially among women in the northern region, where over 67% are illiterate. “A nation where half the population is economically disempowered due to illiteracy will find it difficult to achieve development,” he warned.

Osinbajo advocated for large-scale interventions targeting literacy and economic empowerment to drive systemic change.

Reflecting on the conference theme, “Dream, Dare, Do,” he praised WIMBIZ for its resilience and commitment to impactful change. “It’s about resilience and the courage to persevere through challenges,” he said, noting the pressures on Nigerian entrepreneurs to maintain an image of success that may exceed their business reality.
