#EndBadGovernance: Tinubu’s Reckless Attempts To Charge Protesters With Treason Absurd-Amnesty International

The #EndBadGovernance protestors should be released unconditionally, according to Amnesty International, which also said that the government of President Bola Tinubu’s accusation of treason against them is irrational and dangerous.

“Amnesty again calls on the Nigerian authorities to release all those detained for participating in the #EndBadGovernance protests between 1-10 Aug.

“President Bola Tinubu’s reckless attempts to charge those who protested against widespread poverty with ‘treason’ is beyond absurd,” the human rights organisation said in a tweet on Friday.

This comes after a Federal High Court division in Abuja granted bail to ten demonstrators who were accused of treason.

During the August 1–10 protests, thousands of Nigerians who were struggling financially expressed their dissatisfaction with Mr. Tinubu’s leadership.

As Nigerian security services opened fire on protestors during the demonstrations, Amnesty International documented at least 23 deaths. The cops insisted that no demonstrator had been killed.

The administration of Mr. Tinubu has come under increasing fire for its oppressive tactics against dissent, accusing demonstrators of betraying their country.
