Putin-Zelensky: Russia Captures New Ukraine Village, Expands Control

Russian forces have reported another territorial gain in eastern Ukraine, this time capturing the village of Jelannoe Pervoe. The village, located in the Pokrovsk district, is a strategic logistical hub for Ukrainian forces.

According to the Russian defense ministry, the village was liberated through “active and decisive operations” by southern units. This latest victory follows a series of advances made by Russia in the Donetsk region in recent weeks.

The Kremlin has frequently announced the capture of small villages in eastern Ukraine. However, on Tuesday, they made a more significant claim, stating that they had seized the town of Krasnogorivka.

In a separate development, Ukrainian forces launched a cross-border incursion into Russia’s Kursk region on August 6. The Ukrainian forces advanced several kilometers into Russian territory, capturing dozens of settlements. This move was aimed at forcing Moscow to divert troops from Donetsk to Kursk, potentially hindering Russia’s progress in the eastern region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asserted on Friday that Kyiv has managed to “slow” Russia’s advance. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated last week that capturing the Donbass region, comprising Donetsk and Lugansk, remains his top priority.a
