The Nigerian presidency has provided detailed insights into the recent meeting between President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria and King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in London.
The Matrix Reports that King Charles III hosted President Tinubu at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday in the United Kingdom (UK).
Following the meeting, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, shared some key details of the discussion.
According to Onanuga, the meeting focused on Nigeria’s commitment to addressing climate change while ensuring energy security.

President Tinubu reiterated Nigeria’s dedication to implementing global sustainability measures that align with the country’s developmental goals.
He stressed the importance of balancing climate action with energy security to cater to Nigeria’s growing population and economic needs.
The private, high-level discussion also touched on potential areas of collaboration ahead of significant international events, such as the upcoming COP 29 Summit in Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.
Both leaders discussed strategies to combat climate change and strengthen the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

A key topic during the meeting was climate financing. President Tinubu and King Charles III expressed mutual interest in exploring stronger partnerships to advance shared environmental objectives.
They also discussed the role of Nigeria as a leader in Africa and the Commonwealth and how this position can be leveraged to achieve common environmental and economic goals.
The statement from Onanuga highlighted that this was the first meeting between the two leaders since they last met in Dubai at the COP 28 Climate Summit the previous year. He also noted that this recent meeting at Buckingham Palace was held at the request of King Charles III.
