Niger Tanker Explosion: 48 Victims Get Mass Burial

At least 48 people were confirmed dead following a petrol tanker explosion on Sunday afternoon along the Lapai-Agaie road in Niger State.

The explosion occurred when the petrol tanker collided with a truck transporting travelers.

In addition to the fatalities, 50 cows were burned in the incident.

The truck was carrying passengers and cattle from Wudil in Kano State to Lagos. The explosion also destroyed two other vehicles, a crane, and a pick-up truck.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that their rapid response team has been deployed to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations.

NSEMA fears that more bodies may still be trapped in the wreckage.

The statement further revealed that the 48 recovered bodies have been given a mass burial in Agaie town.
