The Ogun State Government has pledged its support for Babcock University in promoting tourism through cultural activities, particularly choral music.
The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Sesan Fagbayi, during the 15th-anniversary celebration of the Unity Chorale Initiative at the university.
Themed “Our Journey Thus Far,” the anniversary event featured a vibrant choral festival showcasing performances from various choirs across Nigeria.
The participating groups included the BACMAC Choir, Premier Symphony Orchestra and Chorale Group, Love Ensemble Music Ministries, The Messiah Chorale, Abraham Tabernacle Choir, The Babcock Pioneer Youth Church Choir, and the host, Unity Chorale Initiative.
Fagbayi emphasized the importance of the collaboration between Ogun State and Babcock University in promoting cultural activities and tourism. He invited the participants to explore the state’s renowned tourist attractions, such as Olumo Rock and Ijebu Shrine, and encouraged them to purchase local cultural products like Adire fabrics.
Notable dignitaries, including former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Babcock University President Professor Ademola Tayo, and other university officials, attended the event.
Engineer Onyedikachi Alala, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Unity Chorale Initiative, appealed for increased support from both the university and the state government for the Music and Creative Arts department and the Unity Chorale Initiative. He highlighted the need to prioritize these cultural endeavors to enrich the community.
Joshua Umahi, President of the Unity Chorale Initiative, expressed gratitude to the university administration, sponsors, and participating chorale groups. He emphasized the festival’s role in community service, music training, and fostering friendships.
Participants, including Dr. Jerry Uchenna Nzenwata and Dr. Hannah Ukangwa, shared positive experiences from the event. Nzenwata described the festival as creating a joyful atmosphere of unity and mutual appreciation, while Ukangwa praised it for bridging cultural and social divides.
