In a continuing wave of dismissals, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Friday, August 30, 2024, added to its growing list of sacked officials.
This follows a previous round of dismissals in May 2024, when 200 CBN employees were terminated.
Since March 2024, the CBN has dismissed a total of 317 staff, including 117 between March 15 and April 11. The recent dismissal of NIRSAL executive directors is the latest in a series of personnel changes at the apex bank.
Recall that in June, former CBN employees have criticized the dismissals, alleging unfair treatment and a lack of due process. Many claim they were not paid their entitlements before being terminated.
In a statement made available to newsmen,they claimed that many were not paid their entitlements before their sacking, a move they argued violates the bank’s human resource rules and policy.
The statement read, “The purge wasn’t limited to high-level executives. It extended far beyond directors, impacting Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors who formed the backbone of departmental operations. These were not junior staff; they were seasoned professionals with deep institutional knowledge.
Also in question is a group from the middle belt, Conference of Autochthonous Ethnic Communities Development Association (CONECDA) Protesting the actions of the CBN Governor on what it called ‘The Questionable Manner of the Governor’
In a recent development, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Yemi Cardoso added to the list, dismissing all executive directors of the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agriculture Lending (NIRSAL) on Friday.
The sacked NIRSAL executive directors include; Managing Director Abbas Umar Masanawa, Executive Director for Operations Kennedy Nwaruh, and Executive Director for Technical Olatunde Akande.
The dismissal was confirmed by an official of the NIRSAL who claimed anonymity, stating that the remaining staff are awaiting further information regarding the reasons behind the decision.
In the termination letters, the CBN cited an ongoing major reorganization and human capital restructuring process as the basis for the dismissals.
