John stated that the suspect, Ukpono Ekopntak, was apprehended at Ekom Iman in Uyo during a routine traffic stop.
3. Ibadan Court Detains Six Suspected Ritual Killers
An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Wednesday detained a 60-year-old woman and four men on suspicion of killing two people for ritual purposes.
Rasheedat Akanji, 60, Mohammed Adekunle, 39, Muniru Salaudeen, 64, Ismaeel Olalekan, 44, and Sanmi Obaleye, 41, are the accused.
They are facing charges of conspiracy, murder, and interfering with dead bodies.
Magistrate Mrs Adebola Adeola did not accept the defendants’ pleas due to a lack of jurisdiction. She ordered that the defendants be held at Agodi Correctional facility in Ibadan after the charges were read.
4. Israeli Drone Strike Kills Palestinian Militant Leader
On Wednesday, an Israeli drone launched two missiles at a civilian SUV at the southern entrance of Sidon, resulting in the death of Khalil Maqdah, a top leader of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
According to Lebanese military sources, Maqdah was also the brother of Munir Maqdah, a commander in the Fatah movement.
The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades is the armed wing of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah).
The incident has raised tensions in the region, with concerns about the targeting of civilian vehicles and the potential for escalation.”
5. Conor Gallagher Makes €40m Switch From Chelsea To Atletico Madrid
English midfielder Conor Gallagher has finalized a transfer from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid, signing a five-year deal with the Spanish club.

6. FCTA Distributes Malaria Preventive Drugs To Reduce Child Mortality
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has taken proactive measures to combat child mortality caused by malaria.
The agency has distributed approximately one million malaria preventive drugs to children under the age of five.
Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary for FCT Health Services and Environment, announced this during a hospital commodity distribution event in Abuja on Wednesday.
She highlighted the importance of these drugs in preventing malaria infections among young children.
In addition, the FCTA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NISA Premier Medical Group, the managers of Garki Hospital, Abuja.
This partnership aims to strengthen healthcare services and improve child health outcomes in the FCT.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Prof. Abdurrahman Sheshe as the Chief Medical Director of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano.
According to a statement released by the President’s spokesman, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, on Wednesday, Prof. Sheshe’s second term will commence on December 5, 2023, and last for four years.

Nigeria, in particular, has seen a remarkable 130% increase in AI-related searches in 2024 compared to the previous year.
Olumide Balogun, Director of West Africa at Google, shared in a statement that AI searches in Nigeria doubled from January to July 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
This surge mirrors a global trend of heightened curiosity and engagement with AI technology.
Nigeria’s growing interest in AI is evident, with the country currently ranking sixth in Africa and 25th globally in terms of AI search volume.
