Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Task Force has apprehended four individuals engaged in the illegal sale of petroleum products in the Mile-2 area. Over 2,000 liters of fuel were confiscated during the operation.
According to a statement released by the agency’s spokesperson, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, on Tuesday, the crackdown on illicit fuel hawkers is crucial to prevent potential fire disasters.
2. Fire Guts Ibadan Furniture Workshop
A devastating fire completely destroyed a furniture workshop in the Felele area of Ibadan, Oyo State, early Tuesday morning. The inferno caused millions of naira worth of damage.
An eyewitness reported seeing the fire engulf the workshop around 5 a.m. while preparing for morning prayers.
3. Man Remanded For Assaulting Neighbor In Kano
A 45-year-old businessman, Sani Ado, was on Tuesday ordered to be remanded by a Sharia Court in Kano State. Ado, who resides at Sheka Gabas in Kumbotso Local Government Area, is accused of assaulting and intimidating his neighbor.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges of criminal intentional hurt and intimidation when they were read to him.
4. FG Vows to Create Digital Platform for Waste Pickers
The Federal Government has pledged to establish a National Digital Repository to support waste pickers in overcoming the challenges they encounter while carrying out their essential work.
Environment Minister Malam Balarabe Lawal made this commitment during a meeting on the National Digital Repository for Waste Pickers in Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja.
Lawal emphasized the critical role of waste pickers in the waste management process, stating, “We cannot discuss sustainable waste management without recognizing the contributions of waste pickers.”
5. Ondo State Launches Amotekun Rangers To Combat Rural Insecurity
The Ondo State government has established a specialized unit within the Amotekun Corps, known as Amotekun Rangers, to tackle the rising cases of killings and kidnappings in the state’s border communities and forests.
The Commander of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this on Tuesday while parading nine suspected criminals in Akure.
According to Adeleye, the training of the Amotekun Rangers is already underway as directed by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and they will soon be deployed to strategic locations across the state.
6. Edo Election: INEC Releases Voters Register To Parties
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Edo on Tuesday presented soft copies of voters register to political parties participating in the Sept. 21 Edo governorship election.
Dr Anugbum Onuoha, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Edo, presented the register to the chairmen and secretaries of political parties and other officials at INEC office in Benin.
7. Akwa Ibom Governor Receives New Airbus For Ibom Air
Governor Umo Eno on Tuesday welcomed the arrival of a new A220-300 series Airbus aircraft for the state-owned airline, Ibom Air.
The aircraft was received at the Victor Attah International Airport.
Expressing his delight at the airline’s expansion, Governor Eno praised Ibom Air as a prime example of successful government enterprise. He stated, “Ibom Air is a source of pride for our state. Its growth is a testament to hard work and dedication, and it’s a model for how government businesses should be run.”
8. New NYSC Coordinator Warns Staff Against Gossip
The newly appointed NYSC Coordinator for Katsina State, Alhaji Sa’idu Ibrahim, has issued a stern warning against gossip among staff members.
During a meeting with heads of branches and units at the secretariat on Tuesday, Ibrahim emphasized the importance of punctuality, commitment, and dedication to duty.
The coordinator urged staff to fully embrace their responsibilities.
9. Zulum Distributes Federal Grains, Cash Relief To Borno Residents
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, on Tuesday commenced the distribution of food relief to 10,000 households in Mafa Local Government Area.
The grains were part of a 20-truck donation from the Federal Government.
To complement the federal initiative, Governor Zulum also disbursed N150 million in cash to 15,000 women in the area.
Speaking at the event, Zulum confirmed that this was the final batch of grains received from the federal government.
10. Enugu Yoruba Community Crowns First Oba
Alhaji Abdulazeez Adebayo has made history as the inaugural Oba of the Yoruba community in Enugu State. Hailing from Osun State, Adebayo was unanimously chosen by the community during a meeting held on Tuesday in Enugu.
The newly crowned traditional ruler revealed that the Yoruba community in Enugu is a diverse group, comprising individuals from Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Lagos, Kogi, and Kwara states.
