Fuel Scarcity: Marketers Give Reasons For Long Queues

While Nigerians are in blank of reasons behind severe fuel shortage across the country, oil marketers have attributed the crisis to ongoing logistical hurdles, which have limited their ability to meet the country’s fuel demand.

As a result of the scarcity, petrol prices have skyrocketed to as high as N1,000 per liter in some filling stations, while black market sellers are exploiting the situation by charging exorbitant rates.

Billy Gillis-Harry, head of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association (PETROAN), during an interview on Channels Television disclosed that the primary cause of the scarcity is a disruption in the ship-to-ship transfer process, a crucial link in the fuel supply chain.

Gillis-Harry emphasized that despite the challenges, marketers are working closely with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to find a solution.
