30 Killed As Bandits Attack Ayati, Benue

At least 30 people were reported killed in a brutal attack by bandits on Ayati village in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State on Thursday evening, August 8, 2024.

According to reports, the assailants, numbering over 60, stormed the community on motorcycles, indiscriminately shooting residents.

The death toll is feared to be higher as many people are still missing.

Eye witnesses reported that the bandit came from Sai road and started shooting at anyone on sight.

Some were killed in their homes, while others died on the way to the hospital in Zaki Biam

Ayati village is part of the troubled Sankera axis of Benue State, notorious for frequent attacks by armed gangs.

This is the second assault on the community in less than a month. A previous attack in July led to violent protests in the area.

The Benue State Police Command confirmed the incident but said details of the attack were still sketchy.

The recurring violence in the region has raised concerns about the security situation and the government’s response to the crisis.
