Sanwo-Olu, NBA Mourn Passing Of Lagos Lawyer Adesina Ogunlana

Renowned human rights lawyer and former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja Branch, Adesina Ogunlana, has passed away.

The news was confirmed in a condolence statement by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Nigeria Bar Association.

Ogunlana, who recently celebrated his 60th birthday, died just two weeks after the milestone. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Governor Sanwo-Olu described the loss as shocking and a significant blow to Lagos State.

He expressed his condolences to Ogunlana’s family, friends, and the entire NBA, particularly the Ikeja Branch. The governor hailed the deceased as a fearless and courageous advocate.

In a separate statement, the NBA’s National Executive Committee (NEC) mourned Ogunlana, describing him as a dedicated activist and a pillar of the legal profession.

His tenure as Ikeja Branch Chairman from 2016 to 2018 was marked by a resurgence of activism within the Bar, most notably the protests against the Lagos State government’s 2018 Land Use Charge hike.

The NBA emphasized Ogunlana’s unwavering commitment to the rule of law, justice, and human rights. His recent participation in the nationwide hunger protest further underscored his dedication to the people.

The association extended its deepest sympathies to Ogunlana’s family, friends, and colleagues, assuring them of their support during this difficult time.
