Lagos Governor Condemns Divisive #IgboMustGo Post, Orders Probe

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has denounced a provocative social media post by @Lagospedia, which demanded the expulsion of Igbo individuals from Lagos and the South-West region. The post, dated July 27, 2024, has ignited widespread condemnation on social media platforms, with many users labeling it as inflammatory and dangerous.

In a statement released on Thursday, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s spokesperson, Gboyega Akosile, stressed that the governor and the Lagos State Government categorically reject the post’s incendiary message, reaffirming that Lagos welcomes all Nigerians regardless of their ethnic affiliation.

Governor Sanwo-Olu perceives the post as a misguided attempt to incite inter-tribal tensions, particularly among the Yoruba and other communities that have made Lagos their home. He has urged Lagos residents to disregard the post and similar messages, pledging to intensify his efforts to maintain lasting peace in the state.

Furthermore, Governor Sanwo-Olu has called upon security agencies to investigate the individuals responsible for the post and hold them accountable. His statement follows a similar condemnation by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who described the “IgboMustGo” hashtag as divisive and a threat to national harmony, urging the Federal Government to take decisive action against those responsible.
