One Dead, Others Wounded As Part Of Building Collapses In Delta State

In Asaba, the capital of Delta State, a portion of a nine-story structure under construction fell on Saturday, leaving one person dead and many others wounded.

The deceased guy was working with the cement mixer when the ninth-floor walls fell on top of him, instantly killing him, according to witnesses.

A few locals expressed dissatisfaction with the caliber of the job and inquired as to whether the owner had permissions before starting the construction project.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Government has sealed the project site, ordering an investigation into the cause of the collapse.

The Commissioner of Urban Renewal Michael Anoka was also on the ground to ascertain the situation of things.

Anoka said an investigation will be launched into the incident to ascertain the circumstances leading to the collapse.

“There will be a further investigation into the building and the findings will be made public,” he said.

Saturday’s incident adds to the recurrent cases of building collapse in Nigeria. Earlier in the week, about five persons died when a structure caved in in Lagos State.

Some weeks back, scores of students were killed when a section of a school building collapsed in Plateau State.

Experts have blamed the poor quality of materials, unprofessionalism, and a host of other reasons as factors triggering building the incessant level of building collapse in Nigeria.
