Many Feared Trapped As Another Building Collapses in Abuja

This comes less than 24 hours after a school building collapsed on pupils in Plateau State, killing 22 and injuring one hundred and thirty-two persons.

The Matrix gathered that four people have been rescued after a section of a two-storey residential apartment collapsed.

As the rescue operation continues, emergency responders and security personnel are on the ground.

In a statement made available by the Federal Capital Territory FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) said it was notified of the incident by passersby and also received a distress call on the 112 emergency toll-free number at about 6:45 a.m.
Head, Public Affairs at the department, Nkechi Isa, said two of the four rescued victims were immediately taken to the Kubwa General Hospital.
She said, “Efforts are ongoing to search for any other person that may be trapped in the collapsed building”.
Meanwhile, the Acting Director General of FEMD, Mrs Florence Dawon Wenegieme, who was also at the incident scene, said search and rescue efforts would continue until the last person is removed, “if at all there is still someone trapped in the rubble”.
She appealed to developers to strictly follow the building code and avoid the use of substandard materials.
