Tragedy in Ondo as 500-level student takes her own life after church vigil

The deceased, who was the president of her department, Agronomy, was said to have attended a church vigil before committing suicide in an uncompleted building around 4 am. According to Noble Olaogbebikan, the Public Relations Officer of the institution’s student union, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday. The university community is in shock and mourning the loss of the young student.

Modupe’s statement read in part:“We express in strong terms our dissatisfaction and agony with respect to the death of one of our students, Ayandare Modupe. A 500-level student of the Department of Agronomy (Agronomy Departmental President).

The department of Agronomy, of which Modupe Ayandare was a student, also issued a statement, which read: “We have lost one of our own, Comrade Modesty, who served as the President of the Department of Agronomy. Her passing, by suicide at Onireason Street’s permanent site, is a profound loss to us all.”

Upon inquiry, the Ondo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed  that the deceased had left a suicide note in her bag prior to the incident. According to the police spokesperson, an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, and detectives are working to uncover more information.”
