The struggle for the Kano emirship continues as Aminu Ado Bayero and Lamido Sanusi both claim the title, each operating from separate palaces in Kano city.
The state government on Friday reinstated Sanusi, who now resides at the main Kano emir’s palace, while Ado Bayero, removed by the government, stays at the mini palace in Nassarawa GRA.
Ado Bayero returned to Kano on Saturday morning, following Sanusi’s formal reinstatement.

Sanusi, a former central bank governor, has welcomed district heads at the palace and participated in a ceremonial procession accompanied by gun salutes from palace guards.
Ado Bayero and the other Emirs nominated by his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje, were dismissed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who gave them 48 hours to leave their palaces and turn them over to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. After that, he said that Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, who Ganduje had removed from office in 2020, would be back in office.
But in the early hours of Saturday, Ado Bayero returned to Kano and was welcomed by a crowd of supporters.
He later moved into the mini-palace in Nassarawa, fueling confusion. However, Sanusi II has taken over the Gidan Rumfa palace.The two palaces are now under heavy security cover. Earlier, the governor directed the arrest of Aminu Ado Bayero
In relation to this, Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, has criticized the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government’s move to send troops to Kano in an attempt to settle the conflict over the Emirate throne.
In a statement provided to THE MATRIX by his Media Advisor, Paul Ibe, Atiku charged Tinubu with interfering unlawfully in the internal affairs of the state. He pointed out that in annulling the 2019 Emirate Council ordinance and appointing Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as emir once more, the Kano State House of Assembly and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf adhered to the proper procedures.

Atiku said: “It is surprising that in the early hours of today, exactly at about 5:30 am the former Emir of Kano, His Majesty Aminu Ado Bayero backed by Federal might made their way into the Nasarawa Palace of the Kano Emirate while the reappointed Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II was at the Gidan Dabo, which is the main residence of the Emir of Kano.
“In this wise, the former Emir could not have made his way into the Nasarawa Palace without the support of the Federal Government having done so with the support of the Army and other security personnel in his company. The deployment of soldiers in extra constitutional matters such as this undermines the integrity of the Nigerian military.
“We need to remind the Tinubu administration that Kano State is known for peace and harmony spanning thousands of years and any attempt to destablise the peace of the Land of Commerce shall be resisted. Recall that Muhammadu Sanusi II was dethroned on 9th March, 2020 dethroned, Kano forged on in peace without any fracas.
“We wish to state unequivocally that if for any reason, law and order breaks down in Kano State, particularly Kano Municipal, the Federal Government should be held responsible as the act of providing security cover to the former Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero to come back to Kano is an invitation to anarchy.”
Soldiers Support Deposed Emir Following Arrest Order

A deployment of troops has arrived at his mini-palace. Yusuf gave the ousted Emirs 48 hours to leave their palaces and turn up power when he signed the legislation repealing the Kano Emirates Council Law. According to THE MATRIX, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero (Kano) returned to the ancient city on Saturday, while the other Emirs—Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero (Bichi), Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Inuwa (Rano), Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II (Karaye), and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir (Gaya)—complied with the directive. At 4:30 in the morning, the aircraft carrying the monarch made landfall at Aminu Kano International airport.
He later observed Subhi (dawn prayer) at the airport after which he made his way to the mini-palace at Nassarawa
Responding to the action of Ado Bayero, Governor Yusuf had ordered his immediate arrest, saying he was creating tension in the state.
In a statement, which Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, his spokesperson, issued on his behalf, Yusuf said Ado Bayero was smuggled into Kano city in an attempt to forcefully return to the palace two days after being deposed.
Our correspondent that a team of soldiers moved into the palace at Nasarawa, where the 15th Emir is, after the order of the governor.
Although security operatives accompanied Aminu Bayero from the airport to the mini-palace, it is unclear why more troops were deployed.
Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, Deputy Governor of Kano, had accused the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, of facilitating the return of the dethroned Emir.
Gwarzo, in a short video interview at Emir’s palace in Gidan Rumfa on Saturday, alleged that the NSA released two jets to bring Ado Bayero to Kano
He said, “The National Security Adviser gave two jets to bring the dethroned emir to Kano and to bring him to the place. We have not understood their intention.”
