The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC on Monday donated food items and other essential relief materials to the people of Soku Community in Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State to assuage their plights in the face of a cholera outbreak in the area, items such as bags of rice, eans, cartons of noodles, tubers of yam, bags of sachets water, cartons of toothpaste, cartons of seasoning cubes, gallons of groundnut oil, garri, mosquito nets, bags of salt, bags of sugar and several pairs of slippers footwear were donated by NDDC.
The NDDC board representative, led by Chief Tony Okocha, said the gesture was in fulfillment of the commission’s promise to provide relief to the people while handing over the items to the community. He emphasised that the gesture was in agreement with the NDDC’s mandate in prioritising the welfare of the Niger Delta people, he added that the NDDC decided to donate the items to the people to ameliorate the negative impact of the cholera outbreak in the community while commending the Soku people for their peaceful mien and cooperation with the medical team earlier sent by the Commission to the community during the cholera outbreak.

Okocha called on the people to ensure transparency and equity in the distribution of the items to those in dire need of them, he urged them to always support President Bola Tinubu in show of appreciation for all the good things he is doing. The APC stalwart announced that The NDDC would soon kick-off the construction of a Mega Solar-powered water facility in the community, he commended the Board and Management of NDDC, headed by the Chairman, Chiedu Ebie and the Managing Director and Chief Executice Officer, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, for repositioning the Commission into an active and feasible interventionist agency.

The Chairman, Soku Council of Chiefs, Chief Opuda Orumo, thanked Chief Tony Okocha and the leadership of the 7th NDDC Board, for always coming to the rescue of Soku Communities at the time of distress while receiving the items on behalf of the community, the community leader also extended the community’s gratitude of the Board to the Rivers State Representative, whom he termed the “the Moses of Soku”, for saving the lives of Soku People during the cholera outbreak and for facilitating the donation of palliatives and the Water Project to the communities, he while pledging unalloyed and support of his people to the government of President Tinubu.
