Election Tribunals: Abuja, Lagos Appeal Courts to hear all election matters

As step to curb political influence on tribunals,

Court of Appeal, President, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, has directed all election petition cases in the 36 states to Abuja and Lagos divisions.

As stated by Oasis Magazine: “It implies that the Court of Appeal will only hear and rule on appeals resulting from decisions made by other electoral petition tribunals around the country in its Abuja and Lagos divisions.

“This order applies to elections for governor, the national assembly, and state assemblies in which the Court of Appeal is the ultimate adjudicating body.

“According to a trustworthy source inside the Court of Appeal offices in Abuja, all appeal cases pertaining to the 1,209 lawsuits filed opposing the way the general elections of 2023 were conducted have been moved to Abuja and Lagos for decision-making.

” In order to comply with this decision and pursue their claims in Lagos or Abuja, as appropriate, all political parties and their candidates with pending appeal proceedings have been directed to do so.”
