Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation Of Oyedele As Finance Minister Of State

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking confirmation of Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance.

The request was conveyed in a letter read during Tuesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Oyedele, who previously chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, was nominated to replace Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite.

An economist and tax expert, Oyedele spent over two decades at PwC, where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He also teaches at Babcock University and is a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School.

In a separate request, Tinubu asked the Senate to confirm former senator Magnus Abe as Chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission following the resignation of Gbenga Komolafe.

Also nominated as non-executive commissioners of the commission are Engineer Paul Yaro Jezhi and Mr Sunday Adebayo Babalola.

Akpabio subsequently referred the nominations to the Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream for further legislative action.
