UNIZIK Expels Student For Assaulting Lecturer Over TikTok Video

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has expelled a student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, for assaulting a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.

The expulsion was confirmed in an official letter dated February 13, 2025, signed by the university’s Acting Registrar, Mr. Victor I. Modebelu.

The decision followed the Student Disciplinary Committee’s recommendation after finding her guilty of violating the institution’s Regulation 4 (SDR) on student conduct.

The altercation, which gained widespread attention after a viral video, reportedly occurred when Dr. Chukwudi Okoye interrupted a TikTok video Precious was recording on campus.

The confrontation led to an altercation in which the student allegedly bit the lecturer, prompting calls for disciplinary action.

The university stated that Precious’ expulsion is immediate, instructing her to vacate the premises and return any university property in her possession.

The expulsion has generated mixed reactions within the academic community, with some supporting the university’s firm stance on discipline, while others debate the severity of the punishment.
