Chiwetalu Agu Applauds Yemi Alade’s Cultural Representation At Grammys

Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has praised Nigerian singer Yemi Alade for proudly showcasing African culture at the 67th Grammy Awards.

Although Alade did not win in her category, Agu emphasized that her presence and outfit at the event were a victory in themselves.

“Yemi Alade, you are a queen—the queen you think you are,” Agu said in a video shared on Instagram.

“She may not have won the Grammy, but she clearly won my heart. If no one else will say it, I, Chief Chiwetalu, will give you your flowers while you can still smell them.”

He commended Alade for wearing traditional African attire, highlighting her commitment to her roots.

“Not only did she represent Afrobeats, but she also showcased African culture through her outfit. She wasn’t there to impress anyone—her outfit screamed, ‘I know my roots.’”

Beyond her music, Agu lauded Alade’s decency, humility, and talent, calling her a role model for young girls. “I pray you find your ‘Johnny’ at the right time,” he added, referencing her hit song.

In response, Alade expressed gratitude, commenting, “I’m not gonna lie. Someone is cutting one full bag of onions. God bless you, sir.”

Alade was nominated for Best African Music Performance for her song Tomorrow, but the award went to fellow Nigerian singer Tems for Love Me JeJe.
