Boy Alinco Urges Parents To Preserve Culture With Traditional Names

Veteran comic actor Bayo Bankole, popularly known as Boy Alinco, has called on parents to give their children traditional African names instead of foreign ones.

Speaking on the Teju Babyface Podcast, Bankole emphasized the importance of cultural preservation, citing Yoruba names like Oluwaseun, Oluwapamilerinayo, and Oluwasoromidayo as beautiful alternatives to Western names like Jayden or Biden.

He argued that abandoning traditional names could erode cultural identity and dismissed concerns about pronunciation, pointing out that schools and institutions easily pronounce Dutch, Russian, and Indian names.

Bankole also highlighted how names help Indians and Jews maintain strong cultural ties, contrasting this with African Americans who struggle to trace their roots due to name changes.

Expressing his deep commitment to preserving African heritage, he stated:
“If my corpse is what will bring my children and great-grandchildren back home, it will be to the glory of Eledumare.”
