Federal University of Agriculture, in Basambiri, Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State newly established is about to commence academic work as renovation work is almost completed in the site, this is the first major federal project
in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa state this was disclosured when the principal officers of the newly approved university led by its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing board, Senator John Brambaifa and Vice Chancellor,
Prof. Reginald Keremah led other principal officers on a visit to the site recently after a crucial meeting with the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri. Steps towards the commencement of activities at the institution was taken during the
meeting and Keremah after the meeting said it was very successful as key issues were discussed, particularly regarding the university’s take-off site in Bassambiri.
The Vice Chancellor said that discussions resulted in a successful resolution and the governor promised the unalloyed support of his administration to facilitate a smooth and timely take off of the Institution.
He said that the visit was significant as the university edges closer to achieving it’s goal of becoming a leading agricultural education and research hub in the South South Region.
Governor Diri enumerated the importance of the institution to Bayelsa state’s development, he highlighted its capacity to drive agricultural innovation and enhance economic growth when functional.
The governing council in its inaugural addressed the immediate challenges of a new Institution which includes infrastructural needs, staffing, and community engagement.
The Pro-chancellor, Brambaifa said that the council has discussed the issues extensively and came out with proactive solutions to a smooth and effective take-off for the Institution.
“We are confident that with the commitment of the council and the support of all stakeholders, the Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, will soon become a centre of excellence in agricultural education and research.
“We are moving swiftly to ensure that the take-off happens seamlessly and that the institution becomes fully operational in the shortest possible time.
”The week culminated in a tour of the university’s proposed take-off site in Bassambri, Nembe, where ongoing renovation works on existing structures were inspected.” Brambaifa said.
The Traditional institution, elders and the people of Bassambiri gave a rousing welcome to the he delegation, led by Brambaifa, they expressed their commitment to cooperate with the governing council to ensure the successful take-off of the
University
The tour of the Bassambri campus was described as fruitful, with the ongoing renovations at key structures being reviewed and the proposed permanent site of the university also inspected.
