41 Feared Dead After Boat Capsizes In Gummi, Zamfara State

Tragedy struck in Gummi, Zamfara State, as a boat carrying 53 farmers capsized, resulting in the deaths of 41 people.

The incident occurred early Saturday morning when the farmers were heading to their farms.

The Matrix learnt that, the boat sank immediately after capsizing, leaving only 12 survivors, including the captain.

While reacting to the incident, Gummi Local Government Area’s Sole Administrator, Alhaji Na’Allah Musa, confirmed the accident and attributed it to overloading.

 “The captain warned the passengers that some needed to disembark, but no one was willing to leave,” Musa explained. “Despite his efforts, the boat capsized and sank due to excess weight.”

Rescue efforts are ongoing, with four passengers reportedly swimming to safety and others being rescued by operators. However, the exact number of missing passengers remains uncertain.
