1. NAFDAC Warns Against Sale of Fake, Substandard Products
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a stern warning to water producers, patent medicine dealers, and other manufacturers of regulated products against the sale of fake and substandard goods.
This warning was delivered by Mrs. Roseline Ajayi, the NAFDAC Southwest Coordinator, during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Ibadan on Friday.
Ajayi emphasized that recent agency operations uncovered the sale of restricted drugs and unregistered products by some patent medicine dealers.
2. INEC Sets Dates For PVC Collection In Edo State
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Edo State has announced date for the collection ofPermanent Voter Cards (PVCs)
According to Timidi Wariowei, Head of Voter Education and Publicity at INEC, the collection will take place in two phases.
From August 22 to 26, residents can pick up their PVCs at their respective ward headquarters. Subsequently, the collection will move to INEC Local Government Council offices from August 28 to 30.
3. Ondo Governor Distributes 18,000 Bags Of Fertilizer
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Friday, commenced the distribution of 18,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers across the state.
Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for providing the state with various relief materials, including the fertilizer.
The governor stated that the 18,000 bags, consisting of different NPK and Urea formulations, would be distributed evenly across all 18 local government areas in the state.
4. NJC To Investigate 27 High Court Judges
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has announced the formation of four investigative panels to probe 27 high court judges over allegations of judicial misconduct.
In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, NJC Director of Information Soji Oye said that the decision was made after the council reviewed 22 petitions against the judges.
While 18 petitions were dismissed due to lack of merit, abandonment, or pending legal matters, the remaining cases will be investigated further.
5. Edo State Recruits 5,500 Teachers
The Edo State Government has recruited 5,500 new teachers to bolster education in the state’s primary and junior secondary schools.
Mrs. Ozavize Salami, Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), announced this on Friday in Benin City.
The recruitment is a key component of the state’s strategy to address the persistent teacher shortage.
Out of a pool of 19,931 applicants, 16,038 candidates were shortlisted for rigorous computer-based tests and interviews.
6. Mpox Cases Rise in Nigeria
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported a total of 39 Mpox cases across 33 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
Bayelsa state is currently leading with the highest number of cases at 16, followed by Cross River with five, Ogun and Lagos with four each, Ondo with three, and Ebonyi with three.
7. Kenya Airports Authority Prepares for Potential Strike
The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announced on Friday that it has implemented contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted airport operations amidst a looming strike by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU).
KAWU, representing airport and Kenya Airways employees, has declared a strike commencing on August 19th to protest a proposed partnership between the Kenyan government and India’s Adani Airports Holdings for the development of Nairobi’s primary airport.
8. Petrol Prices Drop In UK
A recent analysis reveals that petrol prices in the UK have reached their lowest point in six months.
According to the AA, the average cost of a litre of petrol this week stands at £1.43, a figure last seen in mid-February.
Diesel prices have also seen a significant drop, averaging at £147.9 per litre, a level not recorded since late January.
9. Teenager Arraigned for N340,000 Theft
An 18-year-old boy, identitfied as Oluwatosin Ananfor appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday, facing charges of conspiracy and theft.
Ananfor is accused of stealing properties valued at N340,000.
The police prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, alleged that the crimes occurred on July 1, 2023, at 11:45 p.m. in the Agege area of Ikeja, Lagos.
10. Three Men Deny Stealing N310,000 Worth of Items
Three men were arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday for allegedly stealing items valued at N310,000.
The stolen items include a pumping machine, iron doors, iron rods with rings, and a bundle of binding wire.
The accused, Ogunjobi Gaffar (22), Sunday Odubote (25), and Micheal Akinyemi (30), pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy and stealing.
11. FRSC Returns Over N1 Million to Family of Accident Victim
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) FCT Sector Command has returned over N1 million and other valuables to the family of a victim who died in a fatal car accident.
Sector Commander Muta’a Chorrie commended his team for their honesty and diligence in recovering and returning the items during a press briefing on Friday.
