A bill for the establishment of a College of Health Sciences and Technology has been passed by The Edo State House of Assembly on Tuesday the 17th day of October, this follows the presentation by The House Committee on Health.
The bill scaled through the Assembly with ease as all the sections were passed without amendment.
During plenary of the day, the bill to regulate fishery also passed through the second reading.
In a debate anchored by The Majority Leader of the house Charity Aiguobarueghian, he posited that the bill, if passed, would regulate fishery activities and protect rivers and creeks in the state. The bill enjoyed the support of majority of the lawmakers.
The Speaker, Edo State House Of Assembly, Hon Blessing Agbebaku referred the bill to The House Committee on Agriculture to speedily report back to the house. On the petition of the aggrieved members of The Tipper Drivers Association Agbebaku assured them of justice as their petition against their Chairman is receiving the attention of the house.
While addressing the aggrieved tipper drivers in front of the Assembly, The Speaker assured them of justice, directing them to send 10 delegates to the ad-hoc Committee set up for the issue. “we have about seven lawyers in the house and we promise you that we will look into those that have been allegedly suspended with a view to finding out whether their suspension is legal or illegal.” The Speaker said.
According to Mr Joseph Idahosa the leader of the protesters, their grievance is that the current chairman of the association has tinkered with the constitution twice in one year to perpetrate the extension of his tenure in as the Chairman of the association. He further alleged that the current chairman has suspended all members opposing his tenure elongation gimmicks.
Idahosa called on The House to intervene in the matter as the aggrieved members , about 160 in number have been left without a source of livelihood since their suspension about five months ago.
