‘We Did Not Ban Davido’ – Edo Govt Debunks Viral Report

The Edo State Government has thrown its doors open to Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, dismissing reports that the singer has been banned from entering the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, described the report as false and politically motivated.

Afegbua, in a statement on Friday, said the state government had not imposed any restriction on Davido, following an online claim linking the alleged ban to political disagreements between the Adelekes and Governor Monday Okpebholo during the recent Osun governorship election.

“Our enemies are at it again; we did not ban Davido from entering Edo State,” Afegbua said.

He stressed that Edo remained open to everyone, irrespective of political affiliation, beliefs or associations.

The commissioner further said the government would gladly welcome Davido and work with him if he decides to visit or perform in the state.

“Davido is one of our illustrious sons, whose mother hails from Edo State; he’s exemplary, and we are pleased to associate with him,” he said.

Afegbua explained that whatever disagreements occurred during the Osun election were political and should not be viewed as a personal conflict.

“Should he wish to visit Edo State, we would happily host and fete him. Whatever transpired in Osun State in the wake of last week’s election was purely politics and nothing more,” he added.

The commissioner described Davido as one of Nigeria’s global ambassadors, noting his influence in promoting the country internationally.

He also praised the singer’s achievements in the music industry and expressed hope that Davido would eventually win a Grammy Award.
