The political battle for Osun State has taken a dramatic turn ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, receiving a major boost from prominent figures and members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The development is seen as a fresh political headache for the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, as PDP members led by former governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola threw their weight behind Oyebamiji.
Similarly, a political juggernaut in the state,and former Deputy Governor, Iyiola Omisore have also endorsed Oyebamiji.
The endorsement has the potential to further shake up the political calculations in the state, where the contest is expected to be fiercely fought.
“In this particular moment, Osun state requires a different direction. It is on this basis that we have resolved to officially declare our support for Mr Bola Oyebamiji,” Oyinlola said.
In a statement reacting to the development, the APC candidate said the support went beyond partisan politics, stressing that it represented a collective desire for justice, fairness, inclusion and development across the state.
Oyebamiji described the endorsement as a significant show of confidence in his candidacy and a reflection of a shared conviction that Osun State urgently needs a new direction.
He declared that Osun could no longer afford what he described as “one-sided politics and uneven development,” insisting that government must serve all citizens regardless of political affiliation, senatorial district, religion or community.
“Every citizen deserves to feel the impact of government and every part of Osun deserves a fair opportunity to grow,” Oyebamiji said.
The APC candidate said he received the endorsement with humility and a deep sense of responsibility, pledging to work towards ending the politics of division and building a more inclusive state.
According to him, his administration would prioritise equitable development, create opportunities for citizens and ensure that no section of Osun is left behind.
“Together, we can end the politics of division and build an Osun where justice is upheld, opportunities are created and development is felt across the board,” he said.
Oyebamiji said the time had come for Osun to embrace a fresh political direction, calling on residents across party and community lines to support his vision for the state.
“The time for a new direction is now. Together, we will rebuild Osun and give our people the government they truly deserve,” he added.
