Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called for an end to political hostilities in the state, declaring that the period of confrontation should give way to reconciliation and collective development.
Fubara made the appeal on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign rally in Port Harcourt, where he said Rivers had endured enough political conflict and needed peace to move forward.
The governor observed that political disagreements had affected both leaders and their supporters, while ordinary residents bore much of the consequences.
“The time of war is over; it’s time for peace. We cannot continue to fight and expect the state to move forward,” he said.
He urged political leaders and their followers to embrace forgiveness, put past disagreements behind them and work towards rebuilding the state.
According to Fubara, the prolonged disagreements had resulted in unnecessary pain and division, with little benefit to the people.
“We have wasted enough time fighting. Now is the time to build. Now is the time to work for the people,” he added.
The governor described the APC rally as evidence of a changing political atmosphere in Rivers, noting that individuals who previously had strained relationships were now sharing the same platform.
He said the development offered an opportunity for political stakeholders to unite and focus on the state’s progress rather than prolonging disagreements.
Fubara’s remarks come against the backdrop of prolonged political tensions in Rivers State, which have involved divisions among political leaders and supporters.
